CNN will continue to work with Somali community leader, Lul Abdulle who provided a connection to needed community services for Somali refugees in the Cully neighborhood in 2007-08. Lul will be working part time till November 2009 to engage Somali families in youth prevention, development and recreational activities. Also, this new position will help strengthen intercultural ties by involving Somali neighbors in community events including NNO. Building Somali leadership will be key to foster self-reliance when the funds for this project runs out. For more information please contact Sandra Lefrancois Project Manager sandral@cnncoalition.org 503-823-2780. Welcome back Lul!
Now We're Talking-Polarized or Powerful?
Have you had the feeling you're not in Kansas, anymore? Things are changing so rapidly, it's difficult to figure out which end is up. Between the economic recession, the stimulus package and local plans to update the policies that will drive growth in Portland, everything is up in the air. How can we make good decisions in a climate of uncertainty? How can the community come together to support each other? How can we know that what we think is our best interest is good for our neighbors? Can we influence any of this? What do we need to change about our relationship with each other to not only weather the change, but create the community of our dreams together? Please join us for five new community dialogue series on last Thursdays.

Infill Design Toolkit: A Guide for Neighborhoods
Portlanders have a new tool to help improve the design of infill development in their neighborhoods. Published by the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, The Infill Design Toolkit: A guide to integrating infill development into Portland's neighborhoods serves as a resource for community members; builders, designers, neighbors and others - all who are involved in designing, building or participating in dialogue about the new development that continues to shape the form of Portland's neighborhoods. The toolkit provides ideas for how higher density infill development can be designed to respect neighborhood characteristics and minimize privacy impacts. For builders, the various components of the toolkit serve as problem-solving tools, highlighting strategies for achieving context-sensitive design and ways of overcoming some of the unique design challenges of development on small sites. Click here for The Infill Design Toolkit. Printed copies are also available for purchase. For more information, contact Bill Cunningham, project manager, at 503-823-4203 or bcunningham@ci.portland.or.us.
