is being formed to determine how to work collectively to best serve the
Somali community members in the Cully neighborhood. The January 31st meeting
covered topics such as defining the nature of the committee, pathways for
working together, learning more about demographics, available resources
and building bridges between community groups. For more information please

Thursday, February 22 ~ Community Budget Forum at
Cleveland High School, 3400 SE 26th Ave.-6:00-8:30 PM. Join "Speed Dating
the City Budget!" There will be 10 or more tables representing different
service areas. Commissioners, along with bureau directors, will participate
in discussions at the various tables. Community members will move among
the tables for about 15 minutes each to learn bout the budget and provide
comments
Thursday, May 10 ~ Community Budget Hearing at Robert Grey Middle School, 5505 SW 23rd-6:00-8:30 PM. This is an official hearing on the Mayor's proposed budget in the community. Community members will have an opportunity to provide a 3 minute testimony about the initiatives and budget process. Budget decisions will be available prior to the Hearing for review; testimony will also be taken online and by correspondence. Council will meet in June for the final adoption of the budget. Metro will hear public testimony on the final draft
Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP) list on
February 13 beginning at 5:30p, in Metro Council Chamber,
600 NE Grand Avenue. JPACT and the Metro Council are then scheduled
to act on a final list in March 2007. Assuming air-quality conformity
and state compliance confirmation in the summer of 2007, obligation
of funds is scheduled to begin in October 2007.Projects in
CNN area include Cully Blvd. Green Street, Hollywood Transit

The City of Portland Graffiti Abatement program will
sponsor five (5) Saturday morning graffiti cleanups between February
and June, 2007 from 9-1p. The cleanups will be held monthly and
will be comprised of work by both Youth Employment Institute (YEI)
and Goodbye Graffiti crews, and a minimum of 10 volunteers from
the neighborhood-business area to be cleaned that Saturday.
Volunteers must sign a volunteer agreement available at the Graffiti Program webpage To

Our United Villages hosts an inspiring evening
with John Kretzmann. John is Co-Director of the Asset- Based Community
Development Institute at Northwestern University and author of
Building Communities from the Inside Out: A Path Toward Finding
and Mobilizing a Community's Assets. He has international recognition
as an inspiring, straightforward, and wise advocate of strength-based
approaches to building healthy local communities. This popular
event on February 16 will provide valuable insight and direction
for people who have a desire to make a difference in their community
and the world.

United Way Funding Opportunity: 2007 Project Innovation
Grants United Way of the Columbia-Willamette invites area nonprofits
to attend a pre-proposal conference required for their Project
Innovation Grants starting January 29. These one-year grants will
range from $20,000- $40,000 and focus on capacity building, systems
improvement, program innovation, and improved access to services
and best practice development. United Way grants are open to all
tax-exempt health and human services organizations serving Clark,
