GardenNet Roundtable: Food Zoning Code

In just a few weeks a draft of changes to the City's zoning code that will affect the way that food can be grown and distributed in our neighborhoods will be released!

The proposal supports activities such as community gardens, farmers markets and food buying clubs. Learn more from Julia Gisler of BPS and give your input on how the proposed changes could impact your community. 2010 Census Data for your Neighborhood is now One Click Away!
The Office of Neighborhood Involvement partnered with PSU to compile data by Portland neighborhoods based on data collected in the April 2010 short form census. Each Portland neighborhood has a 2-4 page profile based on data available from the 10 question short form. By clicking here you will find your neighborhood listed in alphabetical order with information about population, race, housing, etc. compared with 2000. The socio-economic profiles will come later after the American Community Survey data is released by the Census Bureau. The Rose City Park neighborhood published a more comprehensive look at the data released you can find here.
Learn About the Somali Community: Free Screenings of Two Films
The Somali American Council of Oregon (SACOO) and PCC Office of Affirmative Action and Equity are sponsoring the showing of "The Letter" 1:00 PM and "Broken Dreams" 2:20 PM. The director of "Broken Dreams", Fathia Absie (left), a former Voice of America journalist from Somalia will be available for discussion after the movie as well as members of Portland's Somali Community. How Did this Mural Get Here?
This mural was created in partnership between the neighborhood association, businesses, a local artist, the Regional Arts and Culture Council and the graffiti removal grant through CNN and ONI! The mural to the left by Angelina Marino is the latest in the Roseway Neighborhood at Brickhouse Pizza on NE Sandy Blvd.Join the Regional Arts and Culture Council workshop and learn the rules and regulations for creating murals. Youth Action Grants Available Now!
Portland's youth now have a chance to fund their great ideas. The Youth Action Grants support new youth-initiated and youth-led projects, particularly those that engage large numbers of youth, broaden youth skills and involve new youth leadership. Any Portland youth of 21 and under can apply for up to $1,000 to improve Portland! The Application deadline is February 9, 2012. www.portlandonline.com/bps/youth
Community Watershed Stewardship Grants Due March 30th!
The Community Watershed Stewardship Program grants up to $10,000 for projects that encourage watershed protection and enhancement. Community groups in the City of Portland are eligible to apply. Past projects include pavement removal, art and education, rain gardens, invasive plant removal, naturescaping, and natural area cleanup and restoration. Applications are due by 4p, March 30. Give your Input on the City's Earthquake Response Document
Portland is now expected to experience a potentially devastating earthquake of magnitude 9.0 or greater. Work is underway to identify those vulnerabilities and make Portland a more earthquake-resilient city. This work -now embodied in the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management's (PBEM) new Earthquake Response Appendix - will help lessen the severity of an earthquake's impact on residents. PBEM is asking the public to thoroughly examine the appendix and provide feedback. To learn more please review the appendix by clicking here. Interrupting Racism for Everyday Living Actionshop

This interactive actionshop will explore what it means to be an ally and tools for interrupting racism. Participants will practice-practice-practice!
