| 2010 Community Media Workshops at CNN! |
|
We had a full house for the first SmartAccess™ media workshop series in November, 2009! Central NE Neighbors and Portland Community Media (PCM) SmartAccess™ Center is offering a new workshop series starting January 7th: Digital Storytelling and Producing Multimedia for Your Community. Learn to use images, voiceover and sound to tell your story and work as part of team to develop a community documentary. These workshops are provided by PCM at a discount. SmartAccess™ participants who complete media production workshops are eligible for certification as PCM Producers. Certification allows you to reserve equipment and use the skills you learned in the workshops to complete your own digital projects.
To register for the orientation on January 7th, or request language interpretation please email Cece Hughley Noel at PCM, cece@pcmtv.org, 503-288-1515 x121. Support for the CNN SmartAccess™ Center is also provided by the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. |

| Support Neighbors' Start-Up Businesses |
Micro Mercantes is a community-oriented program of women from different regions of Mexico selling traditional, delicious homemade tamales and drinks to support their families and engage in the community. You will find the women working in mother-daughter teams at ten Portland-area farmers markets or local tamale-catered events. To ensure the vitality of the group and empower the women, Hacienda CDC, local Hispanic affordable housing non-profit, supports the twenty vendors with bilingual training in business management, finance, marketing, securing licenses and learning compliance with local governments. With the support of each other, Micro Mercantes provides a sustainable, empowering livelihood for low-income Latino residents and their families. For more information about Micro Mercantes please contact Jorge Alvarado @ 503 961-6408 or jalvarado@haciendacdc.org. The next time you have an event consider ordering from Jorge, they deliver fresh to your event!
