Share Ideas on what you Want and Need from Portland's City Council Candidates! |
Help identify the skills and abilities community members want in Portland's mayoral and city council candidates. Join us for a unique community forum. Portlandvoters deserve to know whether mayoral and city council candidates have the skills, temperament, and wisdom to serve our community effectively if we elect them. Join to share your experience working with city council members and use this information to identify the skills and abilities we want and need in our elected city leaders. The forum co-sponsors will use the input from the forum to develop a list of desired skills and sample questions for voters to use to help evaluate mayoral and city council candidates. Workshop on Starting a Mural in your Neighborhood, February 11th |

How Did that Mural Get There? Join the Regional Arts and Culture Council workshop and learn the rules and regulations for creating murals in Portland. Saturday, February 11, 10am - 1pm New Columbia, the Community Education Center, 4625 N. Trenton; Cost is $20. Learn how to organize, fund and navigate two distinct paths for creating murals in the City of Portland. Artists Joe Cotter and Robin Corbo will join Peggy Kendellen, Manager of RACC's Public Art Murals Program and Kristin Cooper, from the City's Bureau of Development Services for a discussion on how to navigate the various systems. ABC's of Land Use Workshop, January 28th |
Learn the basics of how the City of Portland's land use and development review processes work. Get hands-on experience with a land use review case study, including review of a development proposal and site plan, identification of relevant issues, and effective ways to respond to the approval criteria. Introduction by Leah Dawkins, Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition. Presented by Matt Wickstrom, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, and Paul Leistner, Office of Neighborhood Involvement. Toxic Disparities and Environmental Justice Presentation, January 9th |
A community presentation will explore how nationally and in the Portland area, the location of industrial sites and freeways and exposure in the workplace, home and place of worship leave communities of color highly vulnerable to chronic disease. Speakers will include Ben Duncan, Program Specialist with Multnomah County Health Department, Environmental Health Division and Board Chair of OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon, which works for Environmental Justice in the Portland metro area. Join Monday, January 9th 5:30-7 PM at Concordia University, 2811 NE Holman St. This presentation is part of the Healthy Homes, Healthy Congregations: Green Steward Project, a pilot project to improve environmental health especially for children. Hold a Portland Budget Event in your Community |
The City of Portland is working on next year's budget and we need your voice in determining which priorities are most important to Portland residents! Budget 101 and 201 Trainings: Budget 101 is an overview of the budget process and opportunities for involvement. Budget 201 looks more in-depth at a budget-related topic of the group's choice. City staff can attend your community group meeting to present training and facilitate discussion. Budget 101 and 201 educational sessions run January through April 2011. Host a Budget Event: Apply for a small grant to host your own community event to discuss budget priorities. A funds match of up to $300 toward the cost of space rental, materials, and food for each event. City staff can help facilitate the events and address your budget questions. 2012 CNN Neighborhood Grant Awards! |

Central Northeast Neighbors is pleased to announce the 2012 grant awards! The Grant Selection Committee comprised of neighborhood, community and small business district leaders recommended six grant awards with an allocation $16, 895. CNN received $81, 284 in requests. We were grateful to receive so many new valuable proposals this year! Here are the 2012 finalist projects in the CNN area:
Andando en Bicicleta A partnership between Hacienda CDC and the Community Cycling Center bringing bicycle know-how to Cully's community of color
!Bienvenidos! A partnership with St. Vincent de Paul to welcome the Latino community at the NE Emergency Food Program with culturally specific outreach
Cully Youth Action Team A partnership with Schools Uniting Neighborhoods and Raphael House to enhance the skills of underrepresented youth as they build community
Off the Couch Reaches Out A partnership with the Hollywood NA to attract new differently-abled young adults to engage in community life
Padres Promotores de Education A partnership between Rigler & Scott Schools and the Latino Network to provide a forum for parent advocacy in schools
Silver Screen Series A partnership with the Hollywood Senior Center to enrich the lives of low income elders of color through Hollywood Theater dialogues and educational films |

PDC Funds Organizing for NE 42nd Ave. and Cully Blvd. Districts |
The Portland Development Commission's (PDC) Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative (NPI) focuses investments in priority neighborhoods to boost neighborhood business growth, provide economic development opportunities and improve community-wide prosperity. NE 42nd Avenue and Cully Boulevard were awarded grants, as well as four other districts outside CNN, to commence community-driven efforts for a continuum of activities that position businesses and community for economic success. The final selection of proposed areas in Portland will be in February 2012 based on milestones met, community interest and commitment. |
